Summer Camp Internship

Would you like to be a part of changing the lives of elementary school children? Interning with These Streets Are Holy (TSAH) can lead you to do that. You will also check resume boxes in future employer-friendly areas such as marketing, social media, fundraising and how to run a small business. Founded in 2017, we are a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit whose mission is sharing God’s word through God’s world. Our approach uses music, mentoring and urban gardening to teach and reach children in creative ways. We like to say, “Children can’t be what they can’t see.” Participants often view our novel personal five-gallon bucket gardening program as us teaching them how to grow plants. We reveal we’re actually out to grow people.

Our programs involve partnerships with organizations in the Roseland, Matteson, Chicago Heights and Calumet Park communities.  Peak work season is 2-5 days/week of summer camps during June and July in Chicago and south suburbs.

Camp activities include:

  • Assist and lead teaching modules on topics ranging from water and nutrients to monarch butterflies and tardigrades.
  • Assist in planting and watering activities.
  • Be a leader and example to the children and help maintain engagement in activities.
  • Depending on your musical background, lead, assist or participate in music programs such as singalong songs to learning ukulele.

Non-camp activities include:

  • Assist in developing web-based content for https://thesestreetsareholy.org and social media for our Facebook, Instagram and YouTube channels (our Facebook page has over 130,000 Likes).
  • Assist in marketing of branded merch items on our website.
  • Help with the annual fundraiser.
  • Provide feedback on existing programs and ideas for improvement along with new program ideas.
  • Hours are flexible

You will also receive mentoring from TSAH’s founders John and Jill who together have more than 70 years of experience in business, government and nonprofits.

Further, should you need community service hours, we can coordinate that within the scope of this role.
