JOB SUMMARY
The Director for Youth & Outreach to Youth at Risk provides vision,
oversight, and leadership to designated ministry programs. This includes
the spiritual growth and development of CPC middle and high school
students, as well as at-risk youth involved in our mission partnerships. The
Director works collaboratively with CPC Staff and assigned ministries.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Using best practices for ministry, the Director works alongside the staff and
committees to:
• Incorporate a trauma-informed, culturally aware approach to one’s
ministry and relationships with youth.
• Assist with developing, articulating, and implementing a vision and
strategic goals for youth and at-risk youth ministries while building a
solid foundation and infrastructure.
• Build and implement innovative programs through consistent and
varied communication with youth, parents, leaders, and congregation.
• Design and implement a scope and sequence for discipleship and
spiritual growth for middle and high school youth in conjunction with
Discipleship and Mission ministries.
• Invite, train, and resource adult volunteers for all aspects of youth and
at-risk youth ministries, which includes modeling effective and
engaging teaching and leadership skills.
• Provide prevention and intervention programs designed for at-risk youth focusing on emotional regulation, conflict management, self-control, and problem solving.
• Build personal relationships with CPC and at-risk youth, including
small groups, retreats, fellowship, outreach, and worship
opportunities, etc.
• Coordinate all summer youth and young adult ministry, including
mission trips and conferences in collaboration with the summer youth
ministry intern.
• Discern the needs and seek approval and support from Mission and/
or Discipleship ministries for youth initiatives pertaining to those
ministry areas.
• Oversee the Confirmation process and other milestones in
collaboration with the Discipleship ministry.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
• Participate in Sunday worship and serve as a liturgist as requested.
• Participate in monthly staff meetings.
• Participate in monthly session meetings as appropriate.
• Participate in monthly Mission & Discipleship committee meetings as
appropriate.
• Participate in Coastal Carolina Presbytery as time permits.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, Christian Education, Youth Ministry,
Secondary Education, or related field;
• BS in Social Work, MSSW, or MDIV is preferred.
• Experience working with youth and young adults in a church or
ministry setting.
• Knowledge of intervention and prevention strategies that mitigate the
negative effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and
trauma, reducing the severity of behavioral health conditions among,
youth and families.
• PC(USA) Reformed theology: knowledgable and affirming of
PC(USA) government and have basic understanding and
commitment to Reformed theology and tradition.
• Person of deep and vibrant Christian faith with a passion and calling
to youth, both CPC and at-risk, and their spiritual growth.
• Commitment to an open and affirming faith environment with respect to class, culture, gender, and sexuality.
