Pastor to Children and Families

PASTOR TO CHILDREN & FAMILIES

  • 15 hours per week
  • $25/Hr
  • Vacation and Parental Leave Available

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

The Children and Family Ministry Director/Pastor will be responsible for the discipleship and care of FCC kids, infants - 5th grade. They will recruit and train leaders to care for and love FCC’s diverse children’s population and teach them how to love God with everything, love their neighbors as themselves, and make disciples who make disciples. They will provide pastoral care for children and their families through times of crisis and celebration. They will resource, equip, and support families to be primary faith influencers at home and continue the work of discipleship outside of FCC. They will intentionally reach out to children and families of the surrounding community, caring for them and inviting them to belong in the FCC family. Lastly, they will partner with Church staff to ensure children are full participants in the life of the Church.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and coordinate all programming and ministry for children ages birth – 5th grade, including Sunday mornings, Wednesday nights, summer programming and special events, etc.
  • Oversee creative development, strategic execution, launch, and maintenance of ministry initiatives in alignment with FCC mission, vision, and values.
  • Includes community engagement initiatives for the purpose of community development, breaking down barriers to belonging in God’s family, and blurring boundaries between the “us” and “them” of church and our surrounding community
  • Recruit, train, care for, and develop ministry volunteers, with intentionality toward leadership development, building a leadership team, and prioritizing diversity of representation in all ministries.
  • Create safe and nurturing environments, activities, and programming to facilitate learning, positive behavioral development, and spiritual growth for various age groups.
  • Implement and maintain the Church’s child protection policy
  • Identify and prepare theologically-aligned curriculum that reflects and represents our diverse community for each program and each age level
  • Provide pastoral care to children in the congregation and community - praying, visiting, counseling, discipling, etc.
  • Provide pastoral care to families with children in the congregation and community by fostering strong relationships and providing resources and support.
  • Outreach to children and families within the Azusa community
  • Partner with other ministry leaders to create and maintain a seamless and interconnected ministry pipeline from birth to adulthood
  • Oversee the maintenance, development, and cleanliness of children’s ministry rooms, offices, and storage.
  • Implement and maintain the church’s child protection policy.
  • Provide general pastoral care for congregants, community members, and campus visitors as part of the pastoral team by speaking with, praying for, and being available as a pastoral representative of the church as needed.
  • Attend weekly staff meetings, One-On-One meetings with supervisor, training opportunities, and continuing education.
  • Participate in Free Methodist Conference training and collaborative events
  • Other duties as directed by supervisor

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Character Requirements

  • Must be a committed Christian, pursuing spiritual growth and spiritual disciplines, who is committed to the regular practice of sabbath
  • Understanding of, and conviction for, gospel-centered biblical justice, with the ability to articulate its impact and importance for our community, including those on the margins
  • A passion and love for children and a pastoral heart for those under their leadership, as well as for other members of the church and the diverse surrounding community
  • Ability to embrace the FCC Team Cultural Norms and Values: Open Communication, Focus on Solutions, Extreme Ownership, Refreshing Innovation, Team Unity
  • Handles conflict with grace-filled, direct conversation instead of avoiding or shutting down conversation

  • Commitment to healthy and authentic interpersonal relationships
  • Theological alignment with the Free Methodist “” and “”
  • Prior to employment, satisfactorily complete a criminal record background check

Professional Competency Requirements

  • A minimum of 1-3 years experience with children’s ministry in a multi-ethnic church and/or professional environments, taking into account relevant non-professional experience
  • Experience with child development, and with children with special needs in particular, a plus
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus
  • Adept at organization and oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to operate independently, creatively, and collaboratively
  • Lifelong learner who pursues education through formal and informal methods; relevant Bachelor's and/or Master's degree a plus
  • Understanding of Wesleyan theology and ability to articulate it to others
  • Proficiency in computer skills, including Google Suite and the ability to quickly and independently learn new software programs as required
