ParentChild+ Data Assessment Coordinator: AmeriCorps VISTA

START/END DATE: 6/3/2024 - 6/2/2025

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

ParentChild+ meets parents where they are to help them prepare their child for school. Families with 2- and 3-year-olds are matched with trained home visitors of the same language and cultural background. Families have twice-weekly visits with their home visitors who bring free educational toys and books and model positive interaction to support parents in building their skills and confidence to prepare and advocate for their children for school success.

Outcomes include increased vocabulary and pre-literacy skills, strengthened parent-child relationships, and fostering kids’ social-emotional development. Children leave the ParentChild+ program more prepared for preschool and kindergarten, and participants are more likely to graduate from high school. Last year, our ParentChild+ community partner providers served 1,010 families and completed over 37,000 home visits. Over 10,000 families have been supported in King County since 2010.

The VISTA member will join a small enthusiastic team of ParentChild+ enthusiasts! This service term will focus on becoming familiar with the ParentChild+ program and network of providers and on learning about current challenges and opportunities. After this orientation and data review, the VISTA will provide initial recommendations for resources, training, and other supports. Based on interest and skills, the VISTA will begin developing materials and trainings.
