Music Director Job Description

Classification: Hourly Non-Exempt
Hours:  Full-time
Reports to: Pastor
Supervises: Paid music ministers (accompanists)
Serves on: Worship Commission 

Job Summary:
This key role coordinates the contemporary-leaning music ministry at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings, Montana, within the Diocese of Great Falls-Billings, thereby helping others grow as dynamic disciples who believe, grow, gather, love, and lead in the spirit of Vatican II. 

The ideal candidate possesses knowledge of liturgical music and a deep concern for all ministers who make the celebration possible. The ability to effectively instruct, organize, and support the various musical ministers will enhance the ministry's vibrancy and parishioners' experience. 

Although keyboard skills are helpful, St. Pius X is blessed to have several accompanists, so this skill is not necessary. The music director coordinates all involved with the music ministry – accompanists, choirs, ensembles, cantors, instrumentalists, etc. – as well as the planning of liturgical music with pastoral team and planning committee(s) for liturgical events, including baptisms, reconciliation, confirmation, First Eucharist, communal anointing of the sick, weddings, funerals, etc.

Requirements:
Must be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing.
Minimum of one year of experience in music ministry preferred.
