About Paper Airplanes

Paper Airplanes is a U.S.-registered nonprofit organization founded in 2014 that supports people affected by conflict through free, online education and tutoring.

Over the past decade, Paper Airplanes has served more than 4,000 learners through English instruction, career readiness programs, and educational support delivered by volunteers from around the world. Our programs combine education with meaningful cross-cultural exchange, helping learners build skills that support their academic, professional, and personal goals.

Volunteer Opportunity

Paper Airplanes is seeking undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff to serve as Virtual Volunteer Tutors for our upcoming semester.

Volunteers are matched one-on-one with a learner and meet virtually throughout the semester. This is a flexible opportunity for individuals interested in education, global engagement, humanitarian work, service, mentoring, and intercultural learning.

Volunteer tutors will:

  • Meet virtually one-on-one with an assigned learner throughout the semester
  • Commit approximately 2 hours per week
  • Select a recurring meeting day and time that works with their schedule
  • Support learners using curriculum and resources provided by Paper Airplanes
  • Participate in meaningful cross-cultural exchange
  • Receive training, curriculum materials, and ongoing support from the Paper Airplanes team

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds. Prior tutoring or teaching experience is not required.

This opportunity may be especially meaningful for individuals interested in education, international affairs, languages, social sciences, humanitarian work, nonprofit service, global studies, community engagement, or cross-cultural communication.

Why Volunteer?

Volunteering with Paper Airplanes provides an opportunity to make a direct impact while developing experience in tutoring, mentoring, intercultural communication, and global engagement. Because the program is fully virtual and scheduling is flexible, volunteers can participate from anywhere while working directly with a learner throughout the semester.
