Position Overview: The Church of the Assumption is seeking a dedicated and experienced Music Director to lead and develop a vibrant, prayerful music ministry that enhances the liturgical life of the parish. The ideal candidate is a practicing Catholic with a deep understanding of the Roman Catholic liturgy and a passion for sacred music.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and execute all music for weekend Masses, holy days, sacramental celebrations, and special liturgies in accordance with Catholic liturgical norms.
- Collaborate closely with clergy and liturgy staff in seasonal and long-term liturgical planning.
- Direct and develop parish choirs (adult, youth, and/or children’s choirs as applicable) Recruit, train, and mentor volunteer and paid musicians and cantors.
- Serve as principal musician, providing accompaniment on piano and organ.
- Select appropriate liturgical music that reflects the traditions and teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Coordinate instrumentalists and vocalists for major feasts and celebrations (e.g., Christmas, Easter, Processions) Sacramental & Event Coordination.
- Plan and coordinate music for funerals, weddings, and other sacramental celebrations in collaboration with clergy and parish staff.
- Meet with families and couples to assist in selecting appropriate liturgical music for funerals and weddings.
- Provide or arrange musicians and cantors for these services Ensure all music selections adhere to Catholic liturgical guidelines.
- Support music planning for special parish events and devotional services as needed.
- Maintain and oversee music library, instruments (i.e. Piano and Organ tuning), and related resources.
- Maintain appropriate music and broadcast licenses as needed.
- Foster congregational participation in sung prayer.
- Coordinate Academy liturgical planning and school choir.
- Responsible for Church Hymnal coordination.
- Create and produce song sheets and special programs as needed
Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong understanding of Catholic liturgy and music traditions
- Several years of experience in music direction, preferably within a Catholic parish setting
- Proficiency in piano and organ performance
- Strong vocal ability and experience leading congregational singing
- Demonstrated experience directing choirs and ensembles
- Knowledge of liturgical planning and familiarity with Church documents related to sacred music
- Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, and volunteers
- Flexibility to be available during normal business hours
- Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
- Appropriate liturgical behavior during masses
- Virtus Certified
- Responsible for other duties as requested or assigned Preferred Skills
- Experience with a wide range of sacred music styles (traditional, contemporary, choral)
- Ability to arrange or adapt music for various ensembles
- Familiarity with sound systems and basic audio technology
Compensation & Benefits:
- Full-time Salaried position
- Stipends for funerals, weddings and other special events

- Salary Range $40,000 - $65,000
