Next Generation Ministry Intern (Summer)

About Our Church

Downtown Hope is a growing church of approximately ~250 regular attendees located in Annapolis, Maryland. Our mission is to be “a family of faith, a movement after Jesus, transformed by the gospel, for our city and the world.”

We are passionate about developing the next generation of Christ-followers and investing in emerging ministry leaders. This internship is designed for a high-capacity young leader who senses a call to ministry and wants hands-on experience shepherding children, students, and young adults while being mentored by experienced church leadership.

 

About the Role:

Downtown Hope is looking for a Next Generation Ministry Intern will help serve, lead and grow our ministries serving children, middle school, high school, and college-aged students. This role is designed to provide meaningful leadership experience while equipping the intern for long-term pastoral ministry.

The right candidate will demonstrate strong leadership potential, a passion for discipling young people, and a desire to grow in teaching, pastoral care, and organizational leadership.

This internship is designed to be developmental in nature, with mentoring, teaching opportunities, and increasing leadership responsibility throughout the year. For the right candidate, the role may develop into a full-time Next Generation Director or Associate Pastor position.

 

Key Responsibilities:

Student & Youth Ministry Leadership

  • Assist in planning and supporting weekly middle school and high school gatherings
  • Teach or facilitate small group discussions regularly
  • Build relationships with students and families
  • Help recruit, train, and encourage volunteer leaders

Children’s Ministry Support

  • Support Sunday children's programming
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and curriculum implementation
  • Help ensure a safe, welcoming environment for children and families

Leadership Development

  • Participate in regular mentoring and coaching with church leadership
  • Read and discuss ministry leadership resources
  • Gain experience in ministry planning, administration, and volunteer management
  • Help build meaningful systems and processes that improve and sustain all next-gen ministries

 

Who We're Looking For

We are looking for a young leader (typically ages 21–30) who demonstrates both spiritual maturity and leadership potential.

Character

  • A committed follower of Jesus pursuing spiritual maturity
  • Humble, teachable, and eager to grow
  • Strong work ethic and positive attitude
  • Demonstrates integrity and emotional maturity

Calling

  • Senses a potential call to long-term ministry
  • Passionate about discipling the next generation
  • Interested in developing preaching and pastoral leadership skills

Competency

  • Strong interpersonal and relational skills
  • Gifted or developing communicator
  • Leadership experience in ministry, small groups, camps, or student environments (formal or volunteer)
  • Organized and able to follow through on responsibilities
  • Creative and proactive in problem solving

 

Compensation

  • Monthly stipend from $1,500 to $3,000 depending on experience and hours
  • Flexible scheduling depending on internship structure
