Associate Pastor - Family and Discipleship

ASSOCIATE PASTOR – FAMILY/ DISCIPLESHIP

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

FUNCTIONS

The Associate Pastor of Family and Discipleship is responsible for equipping God’s people to do His work and empower them to be active as possible in the work of the church community. This position mainly involves leading and overseeing the Children's and Adult's ministries. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • The Associate Pastor must meet the qualifications of a pastor as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 & Titus 1:6-9. 
  • The Associate Pastor must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced by action, attitude, and conduct. 
  • The Associate Pastor must have sufficient ministry experience. And if possible but not required a bachelor’s degree or higher in Biblical studies or ministry related field.
  • The Associate Pastor must agree and teach consistently with our statement of faith.

  • Biblically Sound: Possesses strong belief in and extensive knowledge of God’s Word. And demonstrates application of God’s Word in daily living as well as in discipling others.
  • Gifted Communicator: Possesses giftedness and confidence in public teaching, preaching, and other various forms of communication.
  • Administrator: Possesses strong administrative, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ensures that all tasks are done correctly, thoroughly, and with excellence. 
  • A Heart for Discipleship: Possesses a clear conviction that all God’s people are to seek to fulfill the Great Commission and leads by example. He must also possess knowledge in biblical discipleship methods and models. 
  • A Team Player: Possesses a strong ability to work with people of various temperaments, gifts, passions, and church backgrounds

RESPONISIBILITIES 

The roles and responsibilities of the Associate Pastor of Family and Discipleship can be broken down into 3 major areas.

 

  1. CHILDREN

Lead and oversee the making, maturing, and multiplying of disciplines among the children's ministry (birth to 4th grade)

  • Develop vision, goals, and benchmarks for the children's ministry
  • Select and implement curriculum and oversee weekly Sunday children's ministry services 
  • Continually recruit, train children's ministry workers, and equip them to disciple.
  • Organize and oversee fellowship and outreach events for the children's ministry students

 

  1. ADULTS

Oversee current and implement new adult ministries as required.

 

  1. LIFEGROUPS

Oversee Lifegroup ministry as the primary avenue for the spiritual growth of members.

  • Develop vision, goals, and benchmarks for the Lifegroup ministry
  • Develop a clear and effective strategy to help members and attendees join a life group easily and efficiently.
  • Develop, approve, or recommend curriculum for Lifegroups.
  • Continually recruit, train Lifegroup leaders, and equip them to disciple. 
    1. ASSISTING MINISTRY TEAMS

 

Work with pastoral team to give assistance to current and new ministries and leaders.

  • Work with the pastoral team and current ministry leaders to develop vision, goals, and benchmarks for those specific ministries.
  • Work with the pastoral team and current ministry leaders to help recruit and develop more leaders and volunteers to serve.
  • Work with the pastoral team to develop new ministries to edify the body as well as evangelize our community.
    1. EQUIPPING

 

Work with the pastoral team to see that every member is well trained to serve Christ, share the gospel, and disciple others.

  • Work with the pastoral team to ensure a cohesive discipleship plan.
  • Develop, approve, or recommend classes and training to better equip our church to make disciples.
  • Help people discover their spiritual gifting and a place to serve.

 

  1. GENERAL PASTORAL DUTIES

This position is first and foremost a pastoral position. Therefore, there are several pastoral duties that this person will be expected to perform.

  • Attend staff meetings, board meetings, and worship services 
  • Plan and oversee the budget for the children's and adult's ministries
  • Along with pastoral team, determine and maintain focus on vision and strategic direction
  • Preach during Sunday morning worship service periodically
  • Provide Biblical counseling and care when needed
  • Conduct weddings/funerals if needed
  • Other duties as assigned
