POSITION: A youth and student Ministry Director who will together oversee Student Ministries
and Youth Ministry for the congregation.
DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN’S AND YOUTH MINISTRIES JOB DESCRIPTION: The Director of
Student Ministries will be responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive
program for Christian discipleship including collaborating with, and equipping parents,
developing and overseeing ministry and outreach for children ages preschool through high
school. This position will develop and implement teaching, recruiting, training and deployment of
volunteer leaders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
● Experience serving as a director of youth ministry.
○ A bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. A concentration in student
and/or family pastoral ministry preferred.
● Positive and winsome personality.
● Teachable spirit. Able to work effectively in a team ministry.
● Effective leader. Able to cast a vision for the ministry and make it happen.
○ Able to establish goals and effectively evaluate progress.
● Equipper of the saints. Able to recruit, teach, train, and support lay leaders effectively.
● Models Jesus’ words and ways in one’s personal, professional, and familial life.
● Living a life that honors Christ, inspires the church, and is winsome to outsiders.
● Able to relate well to people of all ages and stages of life.
● Heart for outreach.
● A strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ as evidenced by spiritual maturity and
stability.
● A love for kids, students, and families, but able to connect with all generations.
● Strong conflict management and public relation skills.
● Self-motivated, results-oriented, independent worker with the leadership and
administrative skills necessary to recruit, engage, and lead teams, but who also thrives
in a collaborative environment.
● An understanding, or at least an awareness, for special needs children ministry
dynamics.
● Participate in all staff meetings and prayer times.
● Equip, encourage and care for student ministry volunteers as they lead their
teams/classes.
● Fiscally responsible. Able to create a ministry budget and work within it.
● Enthusiastically supportive of the ministry of Lutheran Schools.
● Working alongside the communications team, regularly connect and clearly
communicate all news, events, and training opportunities with volunteers, students, and
parents to build relationships and help them pursue Jesus.
● Oversee the safety of children, youth, and volunteers.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Children’s ministry
○ Oversee Sunday School. Choose curriculum, recruit, train, and support lay
leaders in the ministry.
○ Oversee Vacation Bible School. Choose curriculum, recruit, train, and support lay
leaders in the ministry.
○ Support and equip parents as the primary spiritual leaders for their children.
○ Ensure a strong relationship between all student ministries at Hephatha. Create
new opportunities to grow the Children’s ministry and reach new children and
families.
● Youth Ministry
○ Oversee mid-week student ministry gatherings
■ 4
th and 6th grade – 1 to 2 times a month (Sunday afternoons)
■ 7
th and 8th grade – weekly (Friday evenings)
■ High School Students – weekly (Thursday evenings)
○ Oversee Sunday morning student ministry gatherings
■ Sunday School/Children’s Church
○ Oversee and lead special events (retreats, camps, etc.)
○ Ensure a strong relationship between the church’s student ministries and
Hephatha Lutheran School
○ Create new opportunities to grow student ministry and reach new students and
families
● Have a vision for a dynamic youth ministry, including staying current with recent trends.
○ Intentionally build relationships with the youth within the congregation and the
community to both reach and disciple the “churched” and the “unchurched,”
especially the students enrolled in our school.
○ Maintain regular contact with the youth, including the regular and fluent use of
technology.

○ Collaborate with other area youth ministries, including neighboring churches and
para-church organizations (e.g., Youth for Christ).
○ Offer regular opportunities for the youth to gather for community, service,
worship, and Bible study,
■ Including (but not limited to):
● Mid-week youth groups
● Special events
● Trips (e.g., mission trips, service trips, fun trips)
● Chapel Champion
○ Assist with the EC-8 school chapel program.
○ Assist in the scheduling of individuals and groups for leading and participating in
chapel.
● Middle School Religion
○ Teach one grade level of middle school religion, as assigned by the Principal.
○ Collaborate with other teachers and ministry leaders in an integrated approach to
spiritual formation in middle school.
○ Pray regularly for each student in this class, as well as the ministry of the school
more broadly.
○ Plan and implement Theology curriculum.
● Attend monthly meetings with the Youth Board and Board of Christian Education for
planning purposes.
ACCOUNTABILITY: Accountable to the Pastor.
Employment Type: Full-time, salary $60,000 - $80,000
