NextGen Ministries Coordinator

Position Description

John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, shared three simple rules that with God’s help and our willingness have the power to change how we live and work.  These three simple rules are: 1) Do No Harm; 2) Do Good; 3) Stay in Love with God. 


 

Position:  NextGen Ministries Coordinator


 

Principle Focus:  The NextGen Ministries Coordinator is responsible for overseeing ministry with people aged infant through 35 (children, youth, and young adults) and overall outreach to the community through Christian education, small groups, mission experiences, and other activities creating an environment that allows participants to grow in their relationship with God through Jesus Christ. 


 

Immediate Supervisor:  Lead Pastor 


 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education with theological training (preferred) or with 3-5 years experience in a position of similar responsibility. 
  • Participation in Onalaska UMC worship as applicable within the role.
  • Must pass a background check. 


 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Faith in Jesus Christ and the doctrine and theology of The United Methodist Church that can be willingly shared in words and actions.
  • Commitment to Onalaska UMC mission, vision, values, and ministry plan.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with other staff and church members to nurture their faith in God through Jesus Christ.
  • Strong organizational, plan development, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities. 
  • Commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds. 
  • Demonstrable expertise in the use of database applications, Microsoft, Google, and Canva.  
  • Ability to use or learn internet and social media platforms including WordPress, Mailchimp, Instagram, Facebook, and others.
  • Participate in continuing education.



 

Regular Duties

  • Participate in staff and other meetings as required.
  • Implement and oversee scheduling of activities.
  • Provide leadership, strategic planning, and visioning for areas of responsibility.
  • Recruit, manage, motivate, and equip volunteers.
  • Create and manage a ministry budget recommendation for areas of responsibility.
  • Select or develop appropriate curricula for programming.
  • Collaborate with other areas of ministry to design and deliver programming.
  • Travel as necessary to carry out position responsibilities.
  • Communicate information about ministry programs and activities to the congregation.
  • Prepare reports for church leaders and Charge Conference as needed.


 

Key Ministry Oversight:

  • Infant up to 3:  Nursery
  • Children Preschool to Grade 5:  Sunday School, W.o.W. - Peeps
  • Youth Grade 6 to Grade 12: W.o.W. - Doves, Wings, Soar, Mission Trips, Fundraising
  • Young Adults College to Age 35: Social Gatherings, Mission, Small Groups


 

Compensation:  The position pays an hourly rate commensurate with qualifications and experience for approximately 20 hours per week.  Eligible for paid personal time off (PTO) and matching contributions to a 403(b) retirement plan per the most recent Employee Handbook.
