Part-Time Children’s Director
Summary
- The Children’s Director will have primary responsibilities in directing Alexandria Community Church (ACC) ministries related to children (nursery through fifth grade).
- The Children’s Director will develop and maintain a children’s ministry that will be well organized, safe, and spiritually nurturing to each child.
- The Children’s Director will recruit, train, and manage volunteer leaders to work with the children.
- The Children’s Director will work under the guidance and direction of the Senior Pastor, and will be accountable to the Senior Pastor and the Human Resources Committee (HRC).
Character, Skills, and Qualifications
- Have a Christlike manner and demonstrate high biblical standards in your life, including:
- A vibrant, personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
- Spending regular time in prayer and personal devotion
- Evidence of the fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23) in your life • Embrace Wesleyan/Arminian theology
- Be in agreement with ACC’s doctrinal statement
- A love for children and ability to connect with families
- A humble, teachable spirit
- Faithfulness in your lifestyle and in all your relationships, including:
- Be celibate in singleness (not sleeping with a boyfriend/girlfriend outside of marriage or participating in casual sex)
- Be faithful in marriage (not cheating on or abusive to spouse)
- If you experience same-sex attraction, choose not to pursue a romantic samesex relationship
- Identify as your biological sex; refrain from cross-dressing
- Must share a common vision with ACC and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement a children’s ministry.
- Be at least a high school graduate
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Use social media wisely, knowing that you are a paid employee and representative of the church–your statements affect people’s views of Jesus and the church
- Refrain from substance abuse, addiction, and illegal drug use
- Ability to be part of a team and work with volunteers
- Maturity in interpersonal relationships and in handling conflict
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
Responsibilities
- Oversee an energetic, biblically-based teaching ministry for Sunday morning (Children’s Church and Children’s Sunday School)
- Provide and coordinate all volunteer teachers with biblically-based curriculum
- Run an energetic, biblically-based mid-week children’s program (has historically been on Wednesday nights)
- Oversee special events for children (Vacation Bible School, Children’s Christmas Program, etc.)
- Participate in outreach events geared toward families
- Do children’s moments or showcases during Sunday morning worship when needed
- Facilitate children’s involvement in Sunday morning worship services
- Help the children relate to the overall life of the church, and keep the church informed of the needs of our children
- Recruit, train, and manage volunteer leaders for working with children; oversee any paid children’s nursery workers
- Ensure that our Safe Sanctuary child protection policy is followed
- Maintain forms regarding medical information for each child in the program; share important child medical information with staff or volunteers as necessary
- Work with Nurture Committee for planning and executing various children’s programs
- Recommend any needed changes in the children’s ministry concerning organization, space use, equipment, room updates, furnishing needs, policies and procedures, materials, programs, curriculum, education methods, etc.
- Become aware of and utilize resources for growing, developing, and improving the children’s ministry
- Prepare an annual budget for children’s ministry needs and administer the approved budget according to church policy
- Plan and prepare a calendar of upcoming activities
- Attend any staff meetings •
- Attend Nurture Committee meetings as scheduled
- Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the Senior Pastor
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: This is a salaried position estimated to be 10 hours per week, with salary at $13,000 a year ($250 a week). Some weeks may involve less than 10 hours, others (like during VBS) may involve more, but 10 hours is the estimated average. Salary changes to be recommended by Human Relations Committee, with approval of Administrative Council.
- Vacation: Per ACC’s policy manual, an employee is entitled to one full week of vacation after completing six months of service, two full weeks of vacation after completing one full year of service, and three full weeks of vacation after completing ten years of service. You are responsible, to the degree possible, for coordinating subs and replacements during your time off. The senior Pastor and HRC chairperson must approve vacation time. Unapproved time off or time off for personal reasons will not be compensated.
- Sick Days: Per ACC’s policy manual, as much advance notice as possible should be given to your supervisors (Senior Pastor and the HRC chairperson) and to any volunteers/teams who will be affected by your absence. Failure to provide sufficient advance notice may result in loss of compensation for the time off and/or disciplinary action. Regular part-time employees shall be entitled to three sick days with pay per year, and sick days may not be carried over from one year to the next.
- Other Time Off: Other situations in which time off might be requested (jury duty, death in the family, parental leave for childbirth or adoption, a leave of absence, etc.) may be worked out with the Senior Pastor and HRC, in consultation with ACC’s policy manual.
- Development: Support for attending trainings, conferences, and other educational opportunities will be considered by Senior Pastor and HRC Chairperson upon request.
Other Expectations
- Ability to Commute/Relocate: Can reliably commute; must possess a valid, legal Driver’s License; living in the nearby Northern Kentucky area a plus
- Work Location: In person
- Background Check: You must undergo a background check as part of the interview and hiring process at ACC
- Child Safety Policy Training: You will undergo training in our Safe Sanctuary child protection policy
- Child CPR Training: Must undergo Child CPR training within 2 months of taking the job if you are not up to date; ACC can pay for the training
- Reports To: Senior Pastor and Human Resource Committee Chairperson
- Review: This position will be evaluated at least annually by the Senior Pastor and HRC. New employees will be hired on a 90 day probation period. Employer or employee may terminate employment at any time during this probation period.
