Choir Director (Part Time – 8-12 hours/week)
Job Title: Choir Director
Location: Waterford Central United Methodist Church, 3882 Highland Road, Waterford, MI 48328. This is a hybrid in-person and remote position.
Ministry Purpose:
To direct the work of others in providing musical experiences that complement worship services throughout the year.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience
- Ability to direct and use a variety of musical styles
- Organization skills to plan rehearsals and prepare for weekly worship services and special calendar events
- Emotional and spiritual maturity to effectively work with various ages, backgrounds and musical abilities
- Ability to recruit, coach and motivate while nurturing group cohesiveness
- Coordinate music ministries with staff and laypeople
- A faith that allows choral directing to be seen as a ministry in Jesus Christ
- Mandatory background checks will be performed every 2 years
Responsibilities:
- Recruit new and maintain current Chancel Choir and Bell Choir members
- Maintain music libraries
- Rehearse:
- Chancel Choir on Thursday evening and Sunday morning
- Bell Choir on Thursday evening and Sunday morning
- Prepare and administrate music and worship budgetary items, including:
- Choir and bell supplies
- Soloists and instrumentalists
- Maintenance of all church pianos, organ, console and pipe chamber, handbells, chimes, handbell gloves, stands, mallets, tables and foam covers
- Communicate / Coordinate musical selections with Pastor and office staff
- Arrange for and hire special and guest musicians
- Select relevant anthems and music for presentation throughout the performance season (September-June). Be conscious and inclusive of the variety of tastes, backgrounds, and musical experience levels of both the choir members and the congregation.
- While this is posted separately from the organist position, they can be combined into one role based upon the experience of the candidate.
Compensation:
- Compensation reviewed annually (December)
- Paid holidays if the holiday is on a scheduled work day; if not that day, the day before or after as determined by the Lead Pastor
Supervision:
Reports to the Staff Parish Relations Committee for overall supervision and the Senior Pastor for daily supervision
