Director of Student Ministry
General Purpose: The purpose of the Director of Student Ministry position at Grace Presbyterian Church (PCA) is to oversee the spiritual development of students in grades 7- 12 through teaching, disciplemaking, partnering with parents of students, recruiting and equipping a team of volunteer leaders, and overseeing programs and events that are Gospel-centered, engaging, relational, and missional.
Key Goals and Objectives:
• Instruction and Discipleship--provide and oversee consistent, Biblical instruction for students (Sunday School and Connect groups). Personally disciple students and train leaders to disciple students as well.
• Consistent opportunities for fellowship, service, and outreach--Provide and oversee consistent student gatherings like youth group, retreats and events, outreaches, and summer camp. Participating in local outreach and community involvement opportunities with non-profits and other churches.
• Communication and training--Consistently communicate with and support parents. Recruit, train, counsel, and encourage volunteer leaders, helping them to invest in students’ lives. Work effectively with the Student Ministry Coordinator to carry out all functions of the ministry effectively.
• Smooth and successful transitions-- Coordinate effectively with the Director of Children’s Ministry to accomplish a healthy transition from 6th grade to 7th grade as well as the Director of Young Adults to accomplish a healthy transition from high school to college ministry.
• Family Ministry Vision support--Work with the Family Ministry Director to carry out a spiritual development and milestone vision for students during their 7th -12th grade years
Key Character and Skill Qualifications:
• Knows and loves the Lord, actively seeking Him in daily decisions and working to grow in Him through consistent spiritual disciplines. Meets the Biblical standards for leadership as found in Scripture.
• Has had previous student ministry experience, having done internships in student ministry or has previously served in student ministry in a volunteer or paid role.
• Preferred: Has a college degree in Student Ministry or Biblical Studies or is willing to pursue further education and training.
• Works well with others and is a team player when working with other staff and ministries.
• Has a passion for students and their spiritual development
• Has strong administrative, coordinating, communication, and delegating abilities.
• Is adaptable and willing to make changes needed to make the ministry more effective.
• Is able to maintain a strong vision for the student ministry in coordination with the family ministry and church.
• Is able to recruit, coordinate, and equip volunteer leaders for the ministry.
• Has the ability to teach and convey God’s Word in an engaging way to the students in alignment with Scripture, the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) and the Westminster Confession of Faith (WCF).
• Is active in making disciples and helping others make disciples.
