POSITION: Community Outreach Director

General Description

New Life in Christ Church (NLC) of Punta Gorda, FL, is an independent church in the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition. Our mission is to offer new life in Christ as we seek, shape, support, and send disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Community Outreach Director oversees two essential areas of our ministry strategy and discipleship pathway: Seek and Send. Seek ministries aim to help people discover Christ. Send ministries aim to help people discover call. The Community Outreach Director leads and coordinates these ministries, fostering a culture of radical hospitality, outreach, and service.

Requirements

  • Faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Fully support the vision, mission, values, structure, and theology of New Life in Christ Church and uphold Wesleyan doctrine.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Displays strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Robust attention to one’s own spiritual formation by practicing the means of grace.
  • Track record of fruitful work or ministry.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Theological training from an accredited seminary is welcome but not required.
  • Must successfully pass a church-specific criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Seek Ministries – Discover Christ

  • Create and lead the Seek Ministry Team, an adaptive leadership team creating, overseeing, and coordinating all Seek ministries.
  • Oversee First Impressions ministries (greeters, parking, welcome center, etc.), training and coordinating all volunteers.
  • Ensure hospitality areas are clean, well-stocked, and guest-friendly.
  • Oversee guest follow-up processes, including calls, emails, and personal outreach.
  • Ensure an effective hand-off of new people to Support ministries.
  • Train and coach volunteers called to serve others through Seek Ministries.
  • Oversee outreach events.
  • Cultivate a culture of radical hospitality throughout the church.
  • Encourage and equip the congregation for evangelism, outreach, and invitation.

Send Ministries – Discover Call

  • Create and lead the Send Ministry Team, an adaptive leadership team creating, overseeing, and coordinating all Send ministries.
  • Lead people to discover their S.H.A.P.E.
  • Encourage and equip the congregation for serving both within and beyond the local church.
  • Train and coach volunteers called to serve others through Send Ministries.
  • Oversee service events, including local opportunities as well as all-age mission trips.
  • Assist the Lead Pastor in leadership development.
  • Cultivate a culture of service, call, and missions.

Team & Ministry Support

  • Work closely with pastors and staff to support broader ministry objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to deliver at least one message a year from the pulpit.     
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, weekly one-on-ones with the Lead Pastor, and relevant planning sessions.
  • Assist other staff as needed.

Accountability

The Community Outreach Director reports to the Lead Pastor.
