Discipleship Director

POSITION: Discipleship Director
Full-Time

General Description

New Life in Christ Church (NLC) of Punta Gorda, FL, is an independent church in the Wesleyan-Methodist tradition. Our mission is to offer new life in Christ as we seek, shape, support, and send disciples of Jesus Christ.

The Discipleship Director oversees two essential areas of our ministry strategy and discipleship pathway: Support and Shape. Support ministries help individuals discover community, while Shape ministries focus on helping individuals discover character. The Discipleship Director leads and coordinates these ministries, cultivating an environment of connection, spiritual formation, and leadership development.

Requirements

  • Faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing personal relationship with Him.
  • Fully support the vision, mission, values, structure, and theology of New Life in Christ Church and uphold Wesleyan doctrine.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Displays strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Robust attention to one’s own spiritual formation by practicing the means of grace.
  • Track record of fruitful work or ministry.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Theological training from an accredited seminary is welcome but not required.
  • Must successfully pass a church-specific criminal background check.

Responsibilities

Support Ministries – Discover Community

  • Create and lead the Support Ministry Team, an adaptive leadership team creating, overseeing, and coordinating all Support ministries.
  • Assist the Lead Pastor in leading New Life 101.
  • Guide newcomers into deeper relational connection at NLC by connecting them to groups, classes, and fellowship/connection events.
  • Oversee fellowship/connection events.
  • Train and coach volunteers called to serve others through Support Ministries.
  • Oversee care ministries such as visitation, prayer team(s), GriefShare, etc.
  • Cultivate a culture of connection and belonging throughout the church.

 

Shape Ministries – Discover Character

  • Create and lead the Shape Ministry Team, an adaptive leadership team creating, overseeing, and coordinating all Shape ministries.
  • Develop and promote discipleship opportunities such as Bible studies, small groups, discipleship bands, and spiritual growth classes.
  • Encourage spiritual disciplines and practices that build Christlike character.
  • Train and coach volunteers called to serve through Shape Ministries (group leaders, teachers, etc.).
  • Oversee leadership development opportunities in partnership with the Lead Pastor.
  • Cultivate a culture of ongoing spiritual formation.

Team & Ministry Support

  • Work closely with pastors and staff to support broader ministry objectives.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Pastor to deliver at least one message a year from the pulpit.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, weekly one-on-ones with the Lead Pastor, and relevant planning sessions.
  • Assist other staff as needed.

Accountability

The Discipleship Director reports to the Lead Pastor.
