Pastoral/Spiritual Care Manager

The Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, Minnesota, are beginning a search for a full-time Pastoral/Spiritual Care Manager.  The Manager provides spiritual and emotional support by active listening, compassionate caring support to Sisters and lay staff. The ability to be truly present to others. Establish a good rapport within an environment of hospitality, peace, and spirituality, promoting the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit of each Sister. It is a ministry of presence and active/attentive listening.  The full position description is listed below.

 

Benefits begin the first of the month following start date.  Benefits include health, dental, vision, and life insurance; vacation, sick, holiday pay; 403(b) retirement; free membership to St. Francis Health & Wellness. 

 

Hours per week: 40

Starting wage: $26.00 - $28.00 per hour

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE: Pastoral/Spiritual Care Manager                  DEPARTMENT: Motherhouse

 

DATE: July 2025                                                       SUPERVISOR: Director, Sisters Services    

 

A.        Description of Role

Provides spiritual and emotional support by active listening, compassionate caring support to Sisters and Lay staff. The ability to be truly present to others. Establish a good rapport within an environment of hospitality, peace, and spirituality, promoting the well-being of the body, mind, and spirit of each Sister. It is a ministry of presence and active/attentive listening.

 

B.        Major and Minor Tasks

  1. Knows and demonstrates the four Franciscan Employee Core Values of respect, open communication, hospitality, and compassion while performing all job functions. Demonstrates values with other staff, volunteers, clients, and visitors.
  2. Demonstrates openness to learning Franciscan spirituality, including the core values of ongoing conversion, contemplative prayer, evangelical humility, and evangelical poverty, to better serve and support the work of the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls. 
  3. Upholds and fulfills the mission and philosophy of Franciscan Sisters in all areas of communications and public relations, whether written or spoken.
  4. Possesses an overall understanding of the pastoral needs among the Franciscan Sisters on campus.
  5. Responsible for providing retreats to Sisters (Annual Religious retreats, and the retreats to meet the needs of the Sisters)
  6. Provides or arranges for spiritual growth opportunities, Bible study, faith sharing, discussions, small group sharing, as needed by the Sisters.
  7. Assures that Sisters can attend religious services that are meaningful to them, i.e., Mass, Rosary, retreats.
  8. Conducts a spiritual assessment for each Sister (Convent, 2nd, and 3rd floor) and keeps a current Spiritual Care Plan for each.
  9. Gives priority to those experiencing loss, grief, transition, or impending death.
  10. Plans for prayer services/anointing of a Sister when approaching death.
  11. Assist with preliminary and actual funeral planning of Sisters funerals and serve as back-up.
  12. Adapts spiritual offerings to the needs of those with memory loss.
  13. Keeps Sisters informed about spiritual offerings/retreats at other locations, such as St. John’s, etc.
  14. Communicates with other disciplines when needed, i.e., supportive companion, spiritual director, hospice, health care coordinator.
  15. Encourages Sisters to connect with the natural world around them.
  16. Supervises volunteers assisting with pastoral care.
  17. Member of the Liturgy Committee.
  18. Other duties as assigned. 

 

C.        Qualifications

Ability to be a compassionate presence to the sisters. Ability to read non-verbal signals, ability to provide a listening presence and spiritual support. Familiarity with and/or willingness to learn about Franciscan spirituality. Effective communication, organizational and time management skills.  A collaborative approach to working with colleagues. Skilled in accompaniment with the elderly, the dying, those in distress. Maintains confidentiality.

 

D.        Performance Requirements

Clinical Pastoral Education, Professional Certificate in Spiritual Gerontology or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the principal duties of the position. Minimum of 3-5 years pastoral experience preferably with the elderly or in healthcare/long term care setting.
