
Director of Student Ministry
Job Status: 20-30 hours per week including Sundays, hourly wage, flexible scheduling, onsite or hybrid with Head of Staff Approval
Purpose: To provide leadership, direction, coordination, and support for the church’s program and mission of Student Ministry to reach middle and high school students.
Qualifications and/or Gifts Required:
- This position is to be filled by a committed Christian of strong faith, with dedicated discipleship and a love of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, who is seeking to live a life commensurate with this faith.
- This person should have strong communication skills, a love and concern for students, an ability to relate well to them, and an ability to work well with others in ministry.
- Strong Leader and Team Builder: Ability to recruit, lead and motivate a team of volunteers and staff, embracing innovation and leading change.
- Possesses a desire and ability for collaboration with others within the church, and with others in the community, for continued growth and partnerships.
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred (student ministry, pastoral ministry, ministry leadership, education, human development or equivalent), and/or documented experience in working with teenagers.

Student Ministries Purpose Statement:
FPC Student Ministry exists to REACH students in the name of Jesus, CONNECT them with the Church and with other believers, help them to GROW in their faith, and guide them in finding their MINISTRY as they HONOR God with their lives.
The work, programs, and relationships of the Director of Student Ministries should work towards the purposes stated in this Student Ministry Purpose Statement.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and develop current and future Student Ministry Programs in connection with, and supported by, the Student Ministry Elder.
- Recruit, train, encourage, and collaborate with the team of Student Ministry Volunteer Adult Leaders to lead programming and serve as Confirmation mentors.
- Develop and lead Middle/High School student programming to carry out the purposes stated in the Student Ministry Purpose Statement.
o Offer weekly program (Sunday morning during the academic year, and Wednesday evenings weekly during the academic year and twice a month over the summer).
o Provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.
o Provide an environment and ethos of active outreach.
o Offer camp or mission opportunities in the winter and summer.
o Provide local mission/service opportunities throughout the year.
o Offer growth, leadership, and discipleship opportunities.
· Lead an annual “Student Sunday” primarily engaging student involvement.
o Work with students giving them the opportunity to lead worship through testimony, music and serving.
o Lift up the ministry and the leaders who mentor the students.
· Coordinate and lead a yearly Confirmation Program for high school-aged students from January through April.
o Offer foundational teaching to enable students to better understand and articulate their faith.
o Support and advise students as they write a Statement of Faith to be shared with Session and pastors.
o In cooperation with the pastors, plan a Confirmation service presenting the students who choose to confirm their faith.
- Develop appropriate relationships with students through activities such as (See Student Leader Guidelines):
o Meet with students in small groups on a regular basis.
o Attend Middle School and High School events on a regular basis.
o Communicate via home visits, mail, e-mail, website, phone, etc. on a regular basis.
- Be available to and maintain regular communication with parents.
- Participate in the wider life of the FPC Congregation.
o Attend Sunday worship services as agreed upon with Head of Staff.
o Connect with FPC church families during Sunday Fellowship time.
o Attend and participate in special events of the wider church as appropriate.
- Work collaboratively across ministry areas with FPC Staff and Pastors.
- Serve as staff support to the Fellowship and Mission Ministry Elders as needed.
Accountability: This position will be accountable to the Pastor as Head of Staff, and to the Session through its Personnel Ministry Team. The Director of Student Ministry will be assisted and supported by the Student Ministry Elder and the Student Ministry Committee.
