Job Title: Maintenance Technician - Wildlife Safari Park

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Hours: Full-time (approximately 40 hours/week; seasonal weekend requirement)

Pay Rate: Starts at $21.96/hour

Summary:

The Omaha Zoological Society is seeking a skilled and reliable Maintenance Technician to support the ongoing operations of the Wildlife Safari Park (WSP), located in Ashland, NE. This position is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of park buildings, vehicles, equipment, and infrastructure. The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for guests, animals, and staff. This position reports directly to the Lead Maintenance & Horticulture Technician.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions (include but not limited to):

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on all park vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete minor plumbing and electrical work across park buildings and facilities.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness of the maintenance facility and work areas.
  • Assist with construction projects including fencing, corrals, and other park infrastructure.
  • Safely operate and maintain a variety of mechanical tools and heavy equipment such as a skid steer, backhoe, and front-end loader.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and preventative maintenance activities.
  • Provide support during select animal procedures, as needed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • General construction and mechanical knowledge is essential.
  • Familiarity with preventative maintenance procedures for buildings, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of safe practices and safety compliance.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with staff and visitors at all levels.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required.
  • Candidates may be subject to a pre-employment background check, drug screening, tuberculosis (TB) test, and other applicable medical clearances.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and occasional extended or irregular hours.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, climb, and reach overhead as required by daily tasks.
  • Ability to regularly lift, push, pull, or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds, using proper lifting techniques.
  • Must be comfortable working in a variety of outdoor weather conditions throughout the year.
